This Month's Tawk
Luz Donahue is an artist and art educator who uses painting as a means for meditation and mindfulness. She teaches workshops and classes from Santa Cruz to Portland with a focus on self-expression using watercolor techniques. Her teaching practice emphasizes playing with abstract compositions to gain a fulfilling and joyful experience while creating beautiful artwork. Participants will create their own mini abstract watercolor painting.

Turning Ideas into Art. In conversation with exhibiting artist, Bernard Trainor 

Drawing on thirty-five years of passionate commitment to the study and practice of landscape design, Bernard approaches his art through a personal lens of unique observations of both wild and built landscapes throughout the world. His art is focused on the lasting images he absorbed living on the edge of the Australian and Californian coastlines. Bernard will share how each painting is part of a thread in the series of works in his exhibition, Grounded, on view through February 9th. Learn more about the exhibition.

Los Gatos Art Association (LGAA) Board Member and award-winning artist, Leslie Landers.

Tour the exhibition Greater Bay Area Open and learn about the Los Gatos Art Association with LGAA Board Member, Leslie Landers. Leslie will guide us through the artworks juried into the Greater Bay Area Open and discuss the range of artistic approaches that are on view in the show. This bi-annual exhibit is sponsored by the Los Gatos Art Association to showcase exceptional art pieces and creators in our area. Leslie will also describe LGAA programs for artists and art enthusiasts.

Leslie is a former semiconductor technology executive who currently devotes her time to traveling and developing as a painter. She works in both oil and watercolor with much of her work being painted outdoors en plein air.

Coffee Tawk with Exhibiting Artist, Charlotte Kruk

This Month's Tawk
KrukTart (aka SJ native, Charlotte Kruk) will share the back story of her creative ideations. Surrounded by materials and a variety of works from her distinctively colorful studio, Kruk will offer insight into her creative process & entertain us with her distinctive take on life and art. Get ready for a real treat to compliment your coffee!

Kruk is best known for her wearable sculptures crafted from repurposed food and candy wrappers.She transforms discarded materials (candy wrappers, cookie boxes, paper, sugar bags, and plastic spoons and forks) into fine art. In this exhibition, visitors will see examples of her vibrant and colorful wearable sculptures and playful ceramics. Kruk’s work is a response to environmental, cultural, and personal experiences. Also on view are some of Kruk’s art making tools and personal items, along with photographs of private studio spaces, which are rarely open to the public.

Kruk is the featured artist in the museum's In the Artist's Studio exhibition series that supports the museum’s mission to share stories in new ways. Through this program, NUMU offers insight into the practice of artmaking and shares with the community the ingenuity, intelligence and empathy that goes into the creative process.

Tour the exhibition On the Shoulders of Giants and learn about the Atelier with NUMU Atelier Program Director Gabriel Coke!

Gabe will guide us on an immersive tour of the show and share the back story on how our fabulous Atelier program came to be. Then we'll head down to the lower floor to the Atelier Studio for more show-and-tell fun. Hope you can join us!

Coke founded the NUMU Atelier in 2015. He teaches classical drawing and painting classes for adults and teens. He has also developed a robust Visiting Artists Workshops program that invites contemporary masters to share their practices to the NUMU Atelier for week-long and weekend sessions throughout the year.

Art Historian, Allison Railo will take visitors on a historic journey through the progression of Digital Photography led by Art Historian, Allison Railo. Taking inspiration from the process of experimentation and adaptation, Allison will provide guests with insight into the diverging but concurrent trends of digital photography and alternative processes.

Allison Railo is an Art Historian with experience working in museum and gallery institutions in the Los Angeles area. She studied World Arts and Cultures at UCLA and completed a Master’s Degree in Museum and Gallery Management at City University,  London. In addition, to receiving her second Master’s Degree in Art History and Visual Culture from San Jose State University, where she focused her research on Contemporary Alternative Process Photographers in the Bay Area.
