Boundaries exist in plain sight in patterns we see around us everyday. Patterns that repeat without overlap or gaps are called tessellations! You can find tessellations in the natural world in things like honeycomb or pinecone scales, and in man made designs like tilework. Design your own shape that repeats on and on in a unique tessellation!
Visit our MakerSpace during museum open hours, Thurs-Sun, August 22-25, to create your own tessellation pattern and the boundaries it forms! Artists of all levels are welcome to join. Materials will be provided, free with admission.
This activity draws on themes from the NUMU’s current exhibition Boundaries: The 4th Annual Experimental Exhibition, a collaboration exhibition between NUMU and genARTS Silicon Valley. How are boundaries made in the world?
