In this hands-on sculpture workshop, participants will learn how to make one- and two-part, non-toxic silicone putty molds and then cast multiples from them using a variety of substances including plaster, mortar, and chocolate(!). Attendees will go home with their reusable molds and the casts they've made, plus a comprehensive instructional packet so they can experiment at home with the techniques we learn.
Moldmaking and casting supplies will be provided. Participants may bring one small object (1-2 inches) that they'd like to make reproductions of.
Additionally, Sawyer will give an artist walkthrough of her Carrying Stones exhibition. She will talk about her artistic process, the fascinating working lives of her project participants, and how she uses molding and casting in the production of her large-scale sculptures.
Your kit will include -- participants will be able to take this home:
EasyMold silicone molding putty, 1/2 lb.
chocolate pieces for casting
plaster for casting
mortar for casting
a selection of pre-made molds
tablespoon measure
mini funnel
[+ the containers to put it all in]
Description of what sort of objects to bring:
Participants may bring one or two small objects (1-2 inches) that they'd like to make reproductions of. Good choices are non-porous materials such as plastic, glazed ceramic, metal, etc. Small figures, fancy buttons, seashells, and small objects with interesting textures all work well. If you're not sure about your object, bring it along and we can have a look at it!
