Open Book Discussion with Power of the Page Artists
Thursday, July 13 | Free with Admission
6-6:45pm Hands-on Viewing | 7-8pm Artist Conversation
Join us for a unique opportunity to meet with the current exhibiting artists, participate in a hands-on viewing of their artists' books, and learn more about the artists and their work in a panel discussion moderated by artist and teacher, Kent Manske. Participating artists include Casey Gardner, Michelle Wilson, Mary V. Marsh, Camden Richards, Jamie Shaffer, Lisa Kokin, and Renee Billingsley.
From 6-6:45pm, participate in an interactive viewing, where the books will be taken out of the exhibit cases and presented directly to visitors. This is an opportunity to engage with the exhibiting artists, interact with their work, and hear them describe and present their artistic process in their own words.
From 7-8pm, join us for a panel discussion moderated by Kent Manske that will explore the unique nature of the medium, the history and practice of creating artists' books, and the themes and narratives these artists have employed in their works.
Power of the Page: Artists Books as Agents for Change is an exhibition that celebrates artist made books as agents for change and social awareness. Artists’ books are conceived as works of art in their own right and employ the unique expression of an artist’s design, words and images. In Power of the Page: Artists Books as Agents for Change, artists’ books tell stories of liberty and give voice to the call for justice. Narratives range from personal to public, from mythical to political.
