Explore the basics of dyeing indigo, learn new techniques, and practice creating patterns and varying color depth. Yards of muslin fabric will be provided, and participants are welcome to bring their own un-dyed cotton, linen, or silk fabrics as well. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting messy, as indigo will stain fabrics.

Take a trip back to summer camp with our Stay-Cation Summer Camp for adults! Let NUMU's exhibit on California's natural beauty (Et in Arcadia Ego) inspire you to use nature in art, crafts and food. Join us as we hang out on the patio and make sun prints, plant miniature succulent gardens to take home, make seed bombs, use sidewalk chalk to create a mandala, try modern lemon bars, learn how to use edible plants in ice cubes, and enjoy them in refreshing iced tea infused with botanicals.

Instructors  |  Elizabeth Greer has been working with elementary and middle school students for over 15 years. She is a long-time member and past president of the Art Docents of Los Gatos. An active Maker, Elizabeth enjoys exploring the intersection of art, science and technology with students while creating projects like rockets, digital art and photography, and LED artworks in classes at NUMU and the Los Gatos Recreation Department.

Karen Harlan has been drawing, sewing and creating since childhood.  As a collector of vintage textiles, Karen likes to take something old and re-purpose it into something beautiful and useful for today.  Karen was an art director at Papyrus greeting card company for seven years and still freelances for them today.  She has also been a member of the Art Docents of Los Gatos since 2007 and enjoys sharing her love of art with children.

Why should kids have all the fun? Take a trip back to summer camp with our Stay-Cation Summer Camp for adults! Hang out with friends in our 2016 adult version of the old camp Craft Shack at NUMU.  Learn how to do updated versions of the crafts you loved as a kid.  Use indigo and Japanese-style Shibori folding to make fashionable tie dyed table runners.  Or make funky mod jewelry using Shrinky Dinks.  You can learn how to make fun friendship bracelets in all kinds of patterns for you, your friends and family.  We may even pull out the macrame...  For snack breaks there will be home made granola bars and healthy juice-based drinks instead of gorp and bug juice - with recipe cards to take home.

Why should kids have all the fun? Take a trip back to summer camp with our Stay-Cation Summer Camp for adults! Join us in our 1970's Airstream trailer, and get ready for a Retro Road Trip.  We will be making our own Travel Journals for holding the sketches, watercolors and scrapbooked memorabilia you collect on your summer travels.  Make a project using Maps, and learn how (and start) a fun cloth banner to display tourist patches.  Refreshments will include lemonade (all grown up with strawberry and basil), artisanal root beer floats, and home made cookie ice cream sandwiches (with recipes to take home!).  If you need a break from creativity, play Kubb, the Swedish "chess" lawn game.

Students will learn about the world of marine biology and what it is like to be a marine biologists. They will use microscopes, magnifying glasses and other tools to learn about our oceans. 

Learn to Discover's passion is to bring high-quality technology education to students from pre-Kindergarten through and beyond beyond Grade 12. These students might be in public schools, private schools and/or homeschools. Our main focus areas are STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), design skills, and art, and may be expanded to other areas as demand and market research dictates.

They are called Circles of Love, or mini-mandalas. We paint them for ourselves and we can paint them for others. The message they carry is profound: the gift of love, the gift of light. This workshop is a fun way to get your feet wet with watercolor (so to speak!), get started with mandala making and participate in a force which can change the world: love energy. Let’s paint and plant some seeds of love for Valentine’s Day! We’ll even incorporate heart leaves from nature into them. Come play, learn, create and have fun. High School Student Artist Lab

January 16, 2016 | 10am - 1pm | FREE with registration

Join us for a morning of art and artist demonstrations. Learn tips for writing your own artist statement and framing your own artwork. On the way to a pizza lunch, you will see how exhibits are installed in a behind-the-scenes tour of Selfie, which opens January 21. Artist Danny Scheible will provide an introduction to the art of Tapigami, in a "Make it Stick" collaborative group activity. Registration is limited. Character and Comic Book Design | After-School Workshops

This class has been cancelled, we apologize for any inconvenience. Kids Creative Adventures will be running workshops at NUMU in February and March. Keep an eye on our Studio page!

This is a fun and exciting drawing class where students will start with warm ups concentrating on composition and lay out, character introduction, color theory, speech balloons and lettering, drawing expressions and basic drawing anatomy (especially how to draw hands). Price includes all art supplies, handouts, student folders, plastic comic pages, color copying and lamination of character cards. This class is designed for the student who is interested in designing characters which will later be incorporated into their own comic book.

These workshops are taught by professional cartoonists, animators  and illustrations from Kids Creative Adventures.
