Introduction to Screen Printing with Yoni Asega

Saturday, September 12, 2015 | 1-3pm | $20 materials fee

This workshop will explore the basics of screen printing,  a process derived from stencil printing. We will go over screen printing basics, history, screen printed monotypes and will cover two stencil making methods: photo emulsion and hand cut stencil.

If you choose to do a hand cut stencil it would be best to have your design cut out and ready to print in order to take full advantage of printing time. Best materials for hand cut stencils are: contact paper, thin plastic transparency paper, wax paper, or laminate copy paper. Alternatively, if you want to print a larger edition (10+ prints of the same image) I can burn your image on a screen using photo emulsion for an additional $20 fee. Files should be emailed to asega.jonathan@gmail.com no later than August 29th.  Acceptable files are .tiff , .Ai or .PSD.  If you don’t want to make a design but would still like to take the class there will be a few designs that you can choose from.

Water based inks will be provided in this workshop as well as newsprint for everyone to print on. You can also bring your own materials such as t-shirts, higher quality paper, etc. This course is suitable for beginners and for those looking for a refresher. If you have any questions, please contact us at 408.354.2646 or at education@numulosgatos.com. Cost for this workshop: $20 materials fee.

The Magic of Watercolor Mandalas

The Magic of Watercolor Mandalas with Michele Faia, Thursdays, July 9 – 30, 2015, 5-7:30 PM (4 Tait Avenue). This class is open to ages 13+.

The Magic of Watercolor Mandalas: Their potential is amazing; they can heal, transform and open the heart. Mandalas, or sacred circles, are a powerful, ancient tool and in this unique class we will explore their magic. Emphasizing the ease and flow of watercolor, we will learn the basics of mandalas and watercolor and how magical they both are. We will paint from the heart, meditate, play, exercise our imagination and develop our creativity, all in the spirit of fun. For years Michele has used mandalas for healing and will share her incredible journey. No experience necessary, really! Come and enjoy a very special class and watch the magic.

Bring to the first class: One round watercolor brush (Simply Simmons is good, size 6); watercolor pigments (either Prang or small tubes with a rectangle palette and lid); a pad of watercolor paper (Strathmore, 140 lb, 11x15 or 12x12), or bring whatever you have. More supplies will be discussed at the first meeting. Michele's book Art in My Heart; The Power of Watercolor Mandala Making will be available at a student discount.

Michele Faia has been teaching and painting for over 30 years. She holds Bachelor and Master's degrees in Art History and began as an art history instructor until she discovered the power of the mandala. She has been teaching watercolor mandala work and using them in her own healing for many years. Her second book on mandalas, Taking It To Heart: Waking Up To One’s Spiritual Calling With Color, Flowers and Messages, will be available this summer as an e-book.

Cost for this workshop: $80.00. Admission to NUMU is included in the workshop fee. To make your reservation, please contact the NUMU administrative offices at 408-354-2646
