Circle Studio Visit: Coffee with Alexander Hernandez & Public Glass

Each year NUMU plans a visit the our Director’s Circle Artist’s Studio, to view the artwork they’ve created for the limited edition commission exclusively for Director’s Circle Members. This year this event will be a fun filled day in the San Francisco exploring the Bayview/Hunters Point neighborhood. We’ll meet at the hip coffeeshop Bloomstock before we tour Public Glass’s hot shop and gallery. Then we’ll tour textile artist and this year’s Director’s Circle artist, Alexander Hernandez’s intimate studio. We’ll learn more about his process, which will culminate in the unveiling of this year’s Director’s Circle Artwork Commission.

Join us for an afternoon in the NUMU galleries to celebrate three insightful artists currently exhibiting at the museum. Get ready for a unique opportunity to meet abstract painter Luz Donahue, photographer Jane Olin, and textile artist Alexander Hernandez. Together, we’ll learn more about their artwork practice and current exhibitions. We’ll enjoy live music, tasty hors d’oeuvres, and refreshing beverages. And be sure to join us by 2pm to hear remarks from these talented artists!

Virtual Talk: Experimental Quilting with Alexander Hernandez

Presented by San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles (SJMQT), New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU), and Palo Alto Art Center

Join us for a conversation with Alexander Hernandez, a textile and mixed media artist whose vibrant quilted works explore issues of gender, immigration, and cultural assimilation with dynamic and creative techniques. In this hour-long discussion, Hernandez will discuss his most recent work as the inaugural Artist in Residence at NUMU. He will highlight his experimental approach to textiles utilizing non-traditional materials and techniques such as spray paint, found objects, and accentuation of rips, stains and loose threads.
