Self-Portrait Workshop: A Few of my Favorite Things with Artist Elizabeth Barlow
Saturday, August 20 | 1-3pm | $25 | Families, all ages welcome
"Everyone knows how to take a selfie, right? But artists have created “self-portraits” for hundreds of years that tell visual stories about who they are. Artist Elizabeth Barlow makes “portraits in absentia” using people's favorite belongings (books, hats, toys) to represent them — and in this workshop she will help you create your own self-portrait using some of your favorite things.
Bring a few objects that say something about you and your personality, for example you could bring a book, a toy, a postcard, a hat, and Elizabeth will show how to select and arrange the objects so that they tell a visual story of YOU. Then she’ll help you make a colorful drawing of your objects. At the end of the workshop you’ll have a “portrait in absentia” of yourself and will know a little bit more about how artists reveal who they are through self-portraits.”
