Jenny Robinson

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jenny Robinson has a particular interest in the peculiar transience of the urban built environment and the impermanence of what is seemingly permanent. Her practice emerges from the observation and study of a variety of structures and architectures, and her work is informed by her immediate environment and explores themes of atmosphere and corrosion.  She forces the viewer to reconsider the beauty and grace of buildings and structures which are often neglected and allowed to deteriorate. As a passionate proponent of printmaking and its place in the art world, Robinson aims to bring new and non-traditional approaches to the medium and a larger audience.

Robinson was raised in Borneo, an island in SouthEast Asia, and studied for her BFA in printmaking in the United Kingdom. In 2001, she moved to the United States and settled in San Francisco. Robinson recently relocated back to Europe to work. She has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally, and is a regular visiting artist at universities and presses throughout the United States and abroad. Her work can be found in many collections including: the Library of Congress Graphic Arts Collection in Washington DC; the Achenbach Fine Print Collection in San Francisco; the British Arts Council Collection and the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford University, England. Most recently, in October, 2019, Robinson won the prestigious Mario Avanti Printmaking Award from the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France.

As the inaugural NUMU Director’s Circle artist, Jenny Robinson created the Architectonic Blueprint #1 series for the members of the group.
