Frank and George: Our Local Queer Pioneers

Join Richard D. Mohr, ceramics historian and author of several books on LGBTQ+ social and political issues, for part two of a lecture series on local artists Frank Ingerson and George Dennison, who are the subjects of his recent book The Splendid Disarray of Beauty: The Boys, the Tiles, the Joy of Cathedral Oaks - A Study in the Arts and Crafts Community. In this presentation, Mohr will discuss the social importance and impact of Ingerson and Dennison’s well-known romantic relationship, and how The Boys contributed to queer history as arguably America’s first transparently common-law-married gay couple.

Frank and George: A Love Story in Arts & Crafts

Join us and Richard D. Mohr, ceramics historian, author, and Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois - Urbana, for part one of a lecture series on local artists Frank Ingerson and George Dennison. The Boys, as they were affectionately known, are the subjects of his recently published book The Splendid Disarray of Beauty: The Boys, the Tiles, the Joy of Cathedral Oaks - A Study in the Arts and Crafts Community. In this presentation, Mohr will discuss Ingerson and Dennison’s prolific art careers and their many contributions to the Arts & Crafts movement, as well as the California art scene at large.
