In support of our exhibition Script and Scribble: The Art and History of Handwriting, the NUMU Black Box Theater will be screening films focusing on penmanship, handwriting and the written word. 

Akeelah and the Bee (2006) (Eleven-year-old Akeelah Anderson is determined to spell her way out of South Los Angeles and make it to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. With a tutor behind her, Akeelah may even show her pessimistic mother she has what it takes to win.
