Opening Celebration for Summer Exhibtions

Join us on JUNE 4 for an Opening Celebration of our summer exhibitions!

Get a glimpse of paradise in Et in Arcadia Ego. Inspired by the 17th century Nicolas Poussin painting of the same name, Et in Arcadia Ego: alludes to the inevitable impermanence of the ideal. This exhibit includes significant historical pastoral paintings from private collections, placing them along side contemporary works that focus on our collective and continued fascination and pursuit of the unspoiled and the harmonious.

Get a ring side seat in Mitchell vs. Steinbeck which looks at the historical events that inspired John Steinbeck to write The Grapes of Wrath, and the controversy, and literary duel with a neighboring Los Gatos novelist, Ruth Comfort Mitchell, through her book Of Human Kindness.

Get it "write" with Script & Scribble: The History and Art of Handwriting. Learn the value of practicing traditional handwriting in a world that is increasingly concerned with abbreviated communication, and what the possible extinction of penmanship might mean.

Get topped off with Hats Off: Highlights from the NUMU Permanent History Collection featuring highlights from several hat collections and exploring the history of headwear and its place in our culture.

Et in Arcadia Ego is made possible by the support of
