Join award-winning sports journalist Dave Newhouse as he introduces his new book,  Founding 49ers: The Dark Days before the Dynasty. NUMU's new exhibit, The Road to Superbowl XIX: A Look at the Bay Area’s Most Unique Super Bowl will open January 21, 2016.

The San Francisco 49ers transformed the Bay Area into a major-league sports area with their inception in 1946. Newhouse's book is a heavily researched history of the 49ers' first 30 years, when they won no league or conference championships, even with a number of iconic players, including eight Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees, before the DeBartolos bought the team in 1977 and turned it into a dynasty. Each of those first 30 seasons is a chapter in Newhouse's book. To truly understand 49er history, this book is a must read.
