Join us for a special artist talk in NUMU’s gallery with Marie Cameron to learn more about her exhibition Critical Masses, A Very Low Tide. Marie will share insight into the themes of overconsumption and sustainability and how these themes influence her art practice. The artist talk will be followed by light refreshments with time to mingle in the gallery.

About the Artist
Born in New York City, Marie Cameron grew up in Maine and the Canadian Maritimes where she earned a BFA with distinction from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick, majoring in painting and minoring in sculpture. While continuing to paint and exhibit, she worked in giftware design for Seagull Pewter and children’s book illustration. Since moving to California, her award winning work has been exhibited at the Woman Made Gallery, the de Young Museum, the Museo Diocesano, in Padova, Italy, Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, the Triton Museum of Art, Saint Mary’s College Museum of Art, Anne & Mark’s Art Party, Santa Clara University’s Edward M. Dowd Art Gallery, Las Laguna Gallery, Gallery 24, New Museum Los Gatos, and Whitney Modern.

Artist Talk with Marie Cameron
Beat the heat this August with NUMU’s monthly craft: DIY folding fans! Visitors can decorate and make their own folding fans with paper and popsicle sticks. Find inspiration in summer scenes, fruity eats, or design your own pattern.
Hoo’s ready for September’s monthly craft? Visitors can use upcycled cardboard, paper, and more to make their own horned owl, a popular sight to see as Los Gatos enters fall. If you need more inspiration, you can check out our collection of taxidermied owls on display in the Los Gatos History Project and Collections Lab. It’s a hoot!

Did you know Yehudi Menuhin, the world-renowned violinist, lived in Los Gatos? Join us for a talk by musician Robert Huguenor, as we learn about Menuhin's life and music.
Learn how to capture the magical light of the Central Coast in oils with local landscape painter, Victoria Galitzine. This class will cover the basics of solvent-free oil painting utilizing the expressive “alla prima” (wet-on-wet) technique. Victoria will guide you step-by-step on how to layer oils using quick, intuitive brushwork. All ability levels are welcome. You will leave with your very own impressionist-style oil seascape. All materials provided.
Interested in trying figure drawing for the first time or brushing up on your skills? Join us at NUMU for a self-guided figure drawing session! The session will take place in our Flick Drawing Studio with a live model, easels, newsprint paper, and pencils. You are welcome to bring additional materials.
Treat yourself to art this October at NUMU by making paper slip pumpkins and marigold tissue garlands. Visit our MakerSpace to create your own pumpkin using silly scissors and slips of colorful paper. Then, make a hanging garland of marigolds from tissue paper and pipe cleaners. These crafts are perfect for the autumnal festivities.

This tiny art and design experience will be big fun!

Join us at NUMU to celebrate the opening of Community Ignition, a group exhibition showcasing how art is created in the Disability Arts Community: in communities, through conversation and support, through interdependence, and within systems of care. The concept of interdependence, or mutual reliance, celebrates asking for assistance and honors the collaboration that is often present in artistic practice. NUMU provides a venue for conversation and learning to shift perspectives and develop awareness of disability culture and artists with disabilities.
You will learn papier-mâché techniques and tips, explore materials, and create your own spooky or silly mask in this two-day workshop with artist Leyla Carleo.

New Museum Los Gatos welcomes the South Bay community to celebrate Reawakening: Muwekma Ohlone Culture and Connection in Pursuit of Recognition and Reawakening: Reciprocity of Land, Sea, and the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe at our Community Day on November 7th. This occasion will feature family-friendly activities, refreshments, games, and exhibition-inspired activations to honor and celebrate the culture and experiences of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe. Brownies will explore NUMU’s galleries with a museum professional, experiment with line-making, printmaking techniques, and create their own painted portraits. Each Girl Scout will also design and build a custom frame to display their artwork. This engaging program is a fun experience you won’t want to miss!
Join us at NUMU for a conversation with artist, curator, and UC Berkeley professor emerita Katherine Sherwood. In her presentation, Katherine will invite guests to explore notable figures in art history through a disability lens, highlighting details of artists’ lives that are often unaddressed in dominant art history discourse. Sherwood will also take time to discuss contemporary disability arts topics in this presentation. This event is a hybrid event.
The Beat poets were legendary, and Neal Cassady lived right here in Los Gatos. Join us for a talk by "Los Gatan" publisher, Dan Pulcano, as he shares his personal reminiscences of Cassady and the Beats.

Learn about the art of bookmaking at NUMU! We will explore how books are made and try a variety of bookmaking techniques for ourselves. Girl Scout Cadettes will fold, stitch, staple, and experiment with bookmaking tools to make fun and functional books. We will use a variety of interesting papers and design our own marbled paper using shaving cream!
